About

What We Do

We scout, visit, and write about the places that make Southeast Asia worth exploring — from hidden cafés tucked down residential streets to sprawling theme parks above the clouds. Every article on WhatsFun is based on a real, first-hand visit. No press releases, no copy-paste descriptions. Just honest, on-the-ground coverage of the spots we genuinely think you’ll love.

Our coverage spans four core categories: Cafes & Coffee Shops, Restaurants & Dining, Attractions & Activities, and Nightlife. Whether you’re planning a weekend out, looking for a new work-from-café spot, or just need somewhere interesting to take a friend visiting from out of town — WhatsFun is where you start.

Where We Cover

WhatsFun currently publishes across two dedicated regional sites, with more destinations on the way.

🇲🇾 Malaysia

Our Malaysian coverage is centred around Kuala Lumpur and the greater Klang Valley, where the food, entertainment, and nightlife scenes are constantly evolving. From heritage cafés in restored colonial buildings to world-class theme parks high up in the Genting Highlands, we cover the full spectrum of what Malaysia has to offer. 🇮🇩 Indonesia

Our Indonesian team is based in and around Jakarta, covering everything from the bustling café districts of South Jakarta to the quieter, creative pockets of BSD and Serpong. We have a particular love for the weird, the wonderful, and the wildly niche — think capybara pet cafés, Harry Potter-themed board game lounges, and Indonesia’s largest claw machine arcade. Our Approach

There’s no shortage of “top 10” lists on the internet. What’s harder to find is writing that actually feels like it comes from someone who was there. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to at WhatsFun.

  • We visit before we write. Every place we cover has been visited by a member of our team. If we haven’t been there, we don’t write about it.
  • We focus on the experience, not just the aesthetics. Yes, we love a photogenic cafĂ© — but we’ll also tell you if the coffee is average or the service is slow.
  • We update our content. Places change. Menus change. Opening hours change. We revisit and refresh our articles regularly so the information you’re reading is actually reliable.
  • We write for people, not algorithms. Our articles are meant to be genuinely useful and enjoyable to read — not stuffed with keywords or padded out with filler.

Who Is WhatsFun For?

Honestly? Anyone who likes going out and wants to make better use of their time and money. But if we had to be more specific:

  • Locals who feel like they’ve already seen everything their city has to offer and want to discover something genuinely new.
  • Travelers who want to experience a city the way residents do, not the way a generic guidebook tells them to.
  • Remote workers on the hunt for a cafĂ© that’s actually work-friendly — good Wi-Fi, good coffee, no pressure to leave after an hour.
  • Groups and families planning a day out and wanting a place that works for everyone, not just one person’s niche interest.
  • Foodies, nightlife enthusiasts, and experience-seekers who believe the best parts of any city are usually found slightly off the main tourist strip.
